Our client underwent surgery to her left shoulder to address left shoulder osteoarthritis. She underwent shoulder replacement surgery using a so-called nano stem. Post-surgery, she continued to experience a significant pain and discomfort in her shoulder but was reassured that this would settle. She was reviewed a few months later as an outpatient and she was referred for an ultrasound scan which was interpreted as showing a mis-placed glenoid component, necessitating further invasive surgery.
Our client continued to complain of significant pain and discomfort in her shoulder. She was investigated with a CT scan which was interpreted as being normal but due to ongoing pain and discomfort in the shoulder a further CT scan took place which revealed arthritic changes to the acromio-clavicular joint.
Expert evidence from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in regards to liability and condition and prognosis was obtained on behalf of our client. A Letter of Claim was sent to the Defendant alleging that the initial surgery had failed as a result of poor surgical technique.
