In an article from late 2019, The Health Foundation has set out where is believes the NHS is failing its patients most and the impact that this is having on patient safety. The following conclusions were reached in the article:
- The proportion of people waiting over 4 hours in Accident and Emergency is the highest since 2004.
- The proportion of people waiting over 18 weeks for non-urgent treatment is the highest it has been since 2008.
- The target for treating cancer patients within 62 days of an urgent GP referral has not been met for over 5 years.
The reason for the decline could be attributed to the lack of funding available to the NHS. According to the Health Foundation, this decade has seen a much lower funding growth for the NHS and this coupled with work force shortages and a growing and ageing population means that the services offered and treatment provided is likely to be compromised. If you believe that you have waited longer than you should have for treatment and you believe that your health was compromised, please contact us for a free enquiry.
