Aintree University Hospital have recently admitted that there is a significant backlog of patients waiting to receive treatment in one of the following sectors:
- Hepatology (Liver Disease)
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
This means that around 10,000 patients have not received vital check-ups, monitoring or investigations, which may mean their condition has become worse or they have not recovered as well as they should have. This could lead to severe or permanent harm.
The delay in treatment may have had a profound impact on your day to day life, your ability to work or may have even changed your life completely.
Whilst some delays in treatment may have reasonably occurred due to covid-19, we have had experience of completely unacceptable delays which date back as far as 2016. Many patients are kept under close observation for monitoring of potentially fatal conditions such as cancer. If these conditions are not picked up on at the earliest possible opportunity, the delays in treating can be catastrophic for the patient and their family. Prolonged damage to essential organs may not be evident at the moment but may become an issue down the line and for that reason we would urge you to contact us to make the enquiry.
Are you one of the 9,496 patients lost to follow up? Have you been expecting treatment or testing that has not taken place? Please contact us for a free consultation to discuss your potential claim for clinical negligence.
